Actuarial Solutions for Managing Risk in the Restaurant and Food Service Industry

Julia Madison King, Actuarial Analyst

The restaurant and food service industry faces a unique set of risk management challenges, from evolving claim trends and complex liability exposures to the need for accurate loss forecasting and financial planning. For more than three decades, SIGMA has partnered with large deductible and self-insured restaurant and food service organizations to provide independent actuarial insights that support strategic risk decisions.

SIGMA’s experience includes delivering annual actuarial services for restaurant and food service companies across a broad range of coverages, such as workers compensation, automobile liability, general liability, and products liability. These engagements provide clients with a deeper understanding of their loss performance, future liabilities, and opportunities to improve their overall risk management programs.

SIGMA’s experience has included multiple studies and presentations of its annual Restaurant Industry Loss Data Survey for the RIMS conference. This industry-specific analysis summarized benchmark data provided by risk managers, brokers, and claim administrators. Benchmark data was compiled for the following segments: Quick Service, Table Service, Fast Casual, and Cafeteria/Buffet. SIGMA completed and presented these studies annually up to 2019.

Our latest one page summary outlines the types of analytical services SIGMA offers, and highlights our experience with various types of restaurants and food service entities. Of course, this one-page summary is just one of the many documents and videos found in our complimentary RISK66 education portal. Already have an account? Login.
